I love his german name

Well, it`s "Jewgenij" in German spelling, but the exact German translation is "Eugen". I have to admit that Jewgenij sounds nicer, though:-)

In Slovakia it is also Eugen, or Evžen, but these names above, are transcripting of his name in that languages.....

thank you for updating "kobold" ... I immediately thought that was some error about his name (Jewgenji) ... but I suppose that someone correct me ... so: Jewgenij & Eugen (Eugen to me sounds so wonderful ... as a name for some prince )

I do not know if abbreviation: de ... indicates Germany or Denmark?

Rarely in any language, his name in "literally" translate (absolute transcript) ... what I saw, in the majority of the country, his name is "adapting", and becomes a time (even if incorrectly) accepted in the press, commentaries on the television, etc ... For example, in serbian, literal translation would be - Jevgenije Viktorović Pljušćenko

Maybe should make a double list: literal translation (absolute transcript) and "adapting" (generaly accepted) translation?

Yes his name is very hard to spell in some, I think maynly non slavonian, languages, I Think, thats why he make his general name as Evgeni Plushenko, to not mutilation his name

And for example czech people have very good and literal transcript - Jevgenij Viktorovič Pljuščenko, and I dont know why in slovakia people write Pľuščenko..... when

Pljuščenko... almost same in serbian

But "non-slavic" nations have much more problems with the Russian letter: щ ... which consists of 2 "sounds" - š (sh) and č (ch)

In my language we have 2 versions of the letter "č" - ch (various spoken):
- "harder" ch - č
- "soften" ch - ć

I do not know how you (Slovakian, Czech...) pronounced the letter "č", but our "soften ć" is much more similar to that, how Russians spoken letter щ ... so: щ = šć

P.S. interested me - if any of you well see my letter ć ?... I know that we have a common letters "č" and "š", but I do not know if you see this letter in your browser?
