Patrick Chan's Olympics Long Program 'Phantom of the Opera' was uploaded to youtube. According to audience, Chan landed a quad toe easily during 6-minutes-practice.

(He tried 4T at second jump. It seems unlikely to make a success soon but, if he did it, he will become the most strong rival of Evgeni. He doesn't stop even one second, he skated from start to finish. Great... :o: But I thought Chan's expression looked same as his old program. And I don't think that his new LP is good. -_- )

Chan stumbles, but still wins free skate at Liberty

World silver medalist debuts new Phantom of the Opera program
Patrick Chan struggled with his jumps, but he still enjoyed his program in Aston, Pa.

(07/19/2009) - The jumps aren't quite there yet, but, judging from Saturday's early-season skate at the Liberty Summer Competition, Patrick Chan's Phantom of the Opera promises to be spectacular.

"It was fun. Every time I fell, I would just get up and think, 'Who cares?' because it's the first time I've competed the program," said the two-time Canadian champion.

No one, except maybe Chan's coach, Don Laws, fixated on the skater's tumbles on a triple Axel, quad toe and some steps. They were too busy taking in the complexity of the skater's footwork and transitions, which were so difficult that Chan wasn't sure he could do them all at first.

"The third day we worked on the program, I told my choreographer, Lori Nichol, 'I don't know about this,' but I heard everyone talking about how amazing it looked, so now I'd hate to make big changes," he said.

"I do have to figure out the [circular] steps. I was late on them, and I've been late in all my practices, too. I have to talk to Lori about how to fix them."

The world silver medalist earned 127.46 points, including some 70.76 points for his program components. He fell on his first two jumps -- the triple Axel and quad toe -- before landing a triple flip-double toe combination.

Chan's quad attempt was a late addition. He hit a clean one in the six-minute warm-up and decided to put it in his program. Despite the fall, the skater got credit for rotating the attempt and earned five points.

"I just got up after the Axel and said why not," Chan said. "I've got to start trying the quad in competition, and what better place than this?"

Chan has nearly three months until his next event, Russia's Rostelecom Cup, plenty of time to refine the program and get more comfortable with the jumps. He plans to train it in three sections and will start to include the quad in his run-throughs.

Laws last led a skater to Olympic gold in 1984, when Scott Hamilton stood atop the podium. Now, more than a quarter century later, history may repeat itself.

"It's hard to think about anything like that," Laws said. "It's another era -- no, maybe it's the second era since Scott's time. The demands on the men are extraordinary. You have to show a quad, and all the triples, and Level 4 spins and footwork. Patrick gets the spins and footwork; he's still working on the quad."....

Stéphane Lambiel wants another go at Olympic Games

Figure skater Stéphane Lambiel, 24, has decided to make a comeback into competitive sport. The Swiss: “I would like to qualify for the 2010 Olympic Games and achieve a top score in Vancouver.” The two-time World Champion (2005 and 2006) retired from competitive skating in October 2008 due to an injury to his left adductor muscle which made training at full capacity impossible. The injury continues to bother him says Lambiel, but thanks to physical therapy the pain is now “manageable”.

Stéphane Lambiel did not hang up his skates following his retirement from competitive skating in October 2008. Quite the contrary. The Olympic silver medalist in Turin (2006) has been in regular training and care during the past months as well as an attraction at many skating exhibitions all over the world. Lambiel: “The joy I take in skating is still tremendous. I feel really good, both physically and mentally, and I am determined, downright eager, to take on the Olympic challenge and score a top result in Vancouver.”

Any fear of his former rival, the reigning Olympic gold medalist Evgeni Plushenko, who is also seeking to make his comeback in Vancouver? Stéphane Lambiel: “Certainly not! I’m fired up for another duel.”

Whether he will resume his “second career” after the Olympics, if his qualification run is successful, the Swiss is not yet certain. “Right now I’m concentrating on Vancouver, what happens afterwards is written in the stars.”

Lambiel will train with his long-time coach Peter Grütter and alone for the Olympic qualification. “I will be going to Geneva twice a week to Mister Grütter. I’ll be doing all other training sessions without a coach, but looked after by my physical therapist Majda Scharl at home in Lausanne.”

Until now Stéphane Lambiel has not rehearsed a new short program. The free program is an enhancement of his Tango program, which he choreographed shortly before his retirement.

As yet Switzerland has no assured starting position for the men’s figure skating competition at the Winter Olympic Games. Stéphane Lambiel can secure this position if he wins one of the first six spots at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, (24 - 27 September). To make the Olympic team Swiss Olympic further requires the winning medalist to obtain 195 points two times. Lambiel’s best performance at the Grand Prix Final Turin 2008 came to 239.10 points.
Since he is not signed up for any of the Grand Prix Events in 2009, Lambiel will have to compete in other competitions before and after the Nebelhorn Trophy, including the Japan Open (1 - 3 October). Furthermore, in January he will participate in the 2010 European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn.
In Switzerland Stéphane Lambiel will most likely only be seen in action before the Olympics at the Ice Gala “World’s Best On Ice” in Basel (19 December). He will also be seen in appearances at skating exhibitions in (August) and (December).

Tomorrow, Sunday, 26 July, Stéphane Lambiel will be flying to Toronto, for a two-week training camp. “In Coach Brian Orser’s group I have the best of conditions. Moreover, I have an excellent physical therapist in Marla Pichler who will be available to me in Toronto.”

*** The Olympic Winter Games 2010 are being held from 12 – 28 February in Vancouver. Men’s Figure Skating competition: 16 February (Short Program), 18 February (Free Program).

Lambiel plans Olympics comeback

Swiss figure skating champion Stéphane Lambiel has announced his return to the competitive arena, nearly a year after an injury forced him into early retirement.

The two-time world figure skating champion said he was preparing for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games qualifiers with his long-time trainer Peter Grütter.

"I feel really good, both physically and mentally, and I am determined, downright eager, to take on the Olympic challenge and score a top result in Vancouver," the 24-year-old said, in announcing the surprise comeback.

In October Lambiel said a lingering muscle injury had put a stop to his competitive career and that he would only be performing in exhibition galas. However, extensive physiotherapy has since enabled him to "control" any pain felt as a result of the injury.

He heads to Canada on Sunday for a two week training camp.

Lambiel won the world championships in 2005 and 2006, becoming the first Swiss world champion in 48 years, and took silver at the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy

JO 2010 Höner: "Stéphane Lambiel is still young and he wanted"

"Stéphane is in fantastic form," says former skater Oliver Honer, owner of Art on Ice, a company that manages the interests of the champion. If he returns to competition, not to play supporting roles.
"Stéphane months came up to a week ago and told me: 'I start again,'" notes Höner not necessarily surprised by this volte-face, both Lambiel is a regular program changes and pirouettes both on the ice outside.
Beginning in 2007, he announced his resignation at the European Championships in Warsaw, citing fatigue. But he disputed the World two months later (3rd). Recently, Lambiel had entrusted to a specialist journal that he missed the competition.
"At 24, he is still under age to come back," says Höner. However, nothing is decided yet about a possible continuation of the new career beyond Vancouver (on the assumption that Lambiel will qualify).

The desire stronger than the pressure

"The choice to return is the result of a process, explains Höner. On the one hand, physically, Stéphane felt better over the months. On the other hand, other come-back (ie: Evgeny Plushenko) have been able to inspire. And he is still young. "

A few weeks ago, Lambiel, who shone at its gala rounds, conducted physical tests to see if his body held up. "It went well, but there is obviously no guarantee for the future," says Höner, referring to painful adductor Champion.

Höner believes that the mentally Valaisan is regenerated. "As he announced his withdrawal, the pressure associated with the 'obligation of result has undoubtedly played a role, and the rating system. But today, he really wanted to come back, "is still the agent.

Vancouver

Valais Saturday announced its return to competition. "I want to qualify for the Games and go to look for a result of first order," announces the Valais. Second Olympics in Turin in 2006 behind Evgeny Plushenko, Lambiel could return to Russia in Vancouver. The champion of St. Petersburg, relieved of weight that he had, in fact he also announced his return to the Games.

Mr. Höner wanted to say that Lambiel is inspired by Zhenya and came back now, but before, he was inspired by Buttle and retired? :36_11_6.gif:

Lambiel "to take revenge on Pluschenko"

The countdown has begun for the "Prince of Saxon."

Stéphane Lambiel explains the reasons for his return. This spring, a physiotherapist has greatly helped to strengthen his adductor, which forced him to stop. The dream again Valaisan Olympic gold.

Before departing for a training camp for two weeks in Toronto, Stéphane Lambiel has explained on Sunday the reasons for his return to competition, announced yesterday. Interview.

Beyond your adductor injury, we felt, when you announced your withdrawal in October 2008, a certain face of fatigue and pressure of the competition had played a role in your decision to stop. What has changed today?

Stéphane Lambiel: At the time I really tried everything for seven months (ie: between Mondiaux Gothenburg in March 2008 and the announcement of its withdrawal) to be in shape. But I could not continue. I had to take time to heal. This spring in Canada, I met a physiotherapist who helped me a lot. His treatment makes me much good. I do sheathing to strengthen muscles and exercises for the pool to reduce the pressure on the adductors, to relieve.
"Mentally, it's going much better"

What is your shape?

Stéphane Lambiel: The shape is good. A year ago, I could not train two or three days a week. Now I can prepare myself every day. Mentally, it goes much better when you know you can again draw on the machine.

Your results will influence the Games Does your decision about a possible continuation of your "second career" beyond Vancouver?

Stéphane Lambiel: I will make every effort to get the best result possible in Vancouver. Why not with the gold medal. I have a little revenge on Plushenko to take after my second place in 2006. Right now, I have no plans for post-Vancouver.

Interviewed by the agency Sportinformation
